Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Nealon died by suicide after a brief police chase in Texas. Authorities reported that the 24-year-old, who was in his second NFL season, sent a group text saying goodbye before being found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. 

Nealon's death came just three days after he scored his first NFL touchdown in what would be his final game. The Cowboys had drafted him in the second round in 2024, and he was remembered by coaches and teammates for his leadership and positive spirit. The incident has led to renewed calls for mental health support and awareness.

Now to a tragedy involving a promising young NFL player, Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Nealon. Officials say Nealon died by suicide after a short police chase. The 24-year-old, in only his second NFL season, had just played what was probably his best game as a pro. Jason Allen has more, and we want to warn you, his report contains some upsetting audio from the police search for Nealon. She's saying he is armed and has a history of mental illness, and her quote was, he will end it all. Speaking to Marshawn Nealon's girlfriend late Wednesday night, Texas police got a glimpse into the final moments of the Cowboy player's life. They just received a text from him, a group text from him saying goodbye. They're concerned for his welfare. Police and state troopers say Nealon led them on a pursuit after a traffic violation. After losing sight of the vehicle, they say they found it crashed, with Nealon nowhere to be found. After a short search, police say they discovered him dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. O'Donnell has it blocked! Nealon's death came just three days after what was seemingly a dream Monday night under the lights for the 24-year-old Cowboy. Nealon, the touchdown! The second year defensive end was mobbed by teammates as he scored his first NFL touchdown in what turned out to be his final football game. I heard from Marshawn, I heard for his family, I heard for his girlfriend, I heard for every single one of my teammates. Marshawn Nealon, defensive end from Western Michigan. The Cowboys drafted Nealon in the second round in 2024 after a standout career at Western Michigan and a record-setting high school career. But to those who knew him, Nealon's qualities as a person outshone his otherworldly talents on the field. His former college coach called his leadership, energy, and smile infectious, and says his passion for life and teammates were unmatched. And Nealon's agent wrote, to lose someone with his talent, spirit, and goodness is a pain I can hardly put into words. For CBS Mornings, Jason Allen, Dallas. I felt that pain too and didn't know him and never even heard of him until yesterday, but it just shows you never know what people are going through. He had scored a touchdown in the game, apparently had a girlfriend, had family and friends that cared about him, was doing well. It's so scary to me. It's just important to also check in on the people that you love. Exactly right. And for the people that are hurting, that they find a place, a way to get help that they need. Even the people that seem so strong sometimes need the most help.
