The international search effort that has been coordinated from here in Boston is shifting focus following yesterday's confirmation that everyone on board the Titan submersible is believed to have died. Authorities made that assessment after finding multiple pieces of debris near the wreck of the Titanic, the wreck that the sub had been on its way to when it lost contact with the surface. Authorities believe that there was a catastrophic implosion at some point during that voyage and that there are no survivors. Now there were five people on board that sub. They were Stockton Rush, the CEO of Oceangate, the company behind the sub. Also British-Pakistani businessman Shazada Dawood and his son Suleiman, British businessman Hamish Harding and French explorer Paul-Henri Nagelay. This has been a terrible week for the family and friends of those five men anxiously waiting for news, desperately hoping for the best and now sadly dealing with the worst. Now there are big questions facing Oceangate in light of this implosion. We have heard from a number of people within the industry who say that safety concerns were repeatedly raised. They have criticised the company's experimental approach, the design of the Titan sub and also the decision to take paying customers to such an unforgiving part of the ocean. The company's co-founder though argues that judgement should be reserved until more is known about what happened. Now a number of the ships that had been rushed out to the search zone, particularly those with medical equipment and staff for example, are being withdrawn. But authorities say that they will keep deploying underwater robotics equipment to keep mapping that part of the ocean floor where the debris has been found. They want to gather more information in the hope that it could help investigators understand what went wrong.
