According to statements from his family and the Council on American Islamic Relations, Musallet was beaten to death by Israeli settlers while protecting his family's land.

Community members and leaders expressed devastation at the loss and are urging public officials to condemn the killing and for the U.S. government to pursue justice. Musallet, who ran a local ice cream shop, was reportedly preparing for marriage and visiting relatives at the time of the incident.

About an hour ago, friends and family and the community gathered together to mourn the death of a 20-year-old Tampa Palestinian man they say was violently beaten in the West Bank by Israeli settlers. His story is now gaining national attention. ABC Action News reporter Annette Gutierrez was there. Many people are coming together tonight to pay their respects for Saifullah Musallat, a 20-year-old who was killed while visiting family overseas. Family members shared a public statement saying they are devastated. Saifullah Musallat was only 20 years old, an American citizen, and ran an ice cream shop on Bruce B Downs called Ice Screamin. The Florida Chapter of Council on American Islamic Relations is speaking on behalf of the family today. Deputy Executive Director Hiba Rahim tells me he was visiting family on the West Bank to prepare for getting married soon. But she says while protecting his land, he was brutally beaten to death on the West Bank by Israeli settlers. Rahim says the settlers regularly encroach on the Palestinian lands. And so in order to protect their lands, Saifullah and two family members camped out to make sure that nobody could steal it from them. But Rahim says as they were sleeping at night, their tent was ambushed by a mob of illegal settlers, and he and another camper had been beaten to death. The community here is devastated, devastated by Saifullah's brutal murder overseas, and we want our public officials to make a stance and to publicly condemn the murder of a local Tampa citizen. And we want the U. S. Government to arrest the perpetrators, to arrest the murderers. Coming up tonight, hear from people who knew him and from the Jewish community on this tragedy.
