The accident occurred near a local waterway, where Noah, an experienced jet ski rider, was found with severe injuries and was rescued by emergency services.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the crash, including potential hazards such as poor lighting and submerged objects near a bridge. The community has gathered to mourn the loss and is advocating for better lighting and safety measures to prevent future tragedies.

Nixon came out in the night and he said, Mum, Mitch is dead, Mitch is dead and he was just sobbing. I just held him until he finished crying. Noah is an experienced jet ski rider known to frequent the waterways near his home. Noah was a beautiful kid, always happy, always excited, always wants to just have fun, enjoy himself. Noah was sensible, you know. But last night, something went horribly wrong. Just after 6pm, the boy's jet ski crashed. Mitch couldn't be saved, while Noah, seriously injured, his arms severed, screamed for help. We smelt like a lot of fuel and then we saw like this guy's head pop out of the water and he's like, I was like, are you okay, and he goes like, help, help. Police Constable Jesse Hockey and Station Officer Scott McNamara swam 60 metres to reach Noah. Cold, murky, dark, we couldn't see much, we just sort of swam to where the light was where the boy was floating and grabbed him and pulled him in. As he lost consciousness, the police officer and paramedic got Noah quickly to shore. To have saved that young boy, that's why we do this job and it felt good to get home last night. I've got young kids as well. Noah is in a serious but stable condition in hospital. A police investigation into the accident is now underway. The Marine Area Command are looking at all different areas of the investigation, whether it was something to do with the bridge, something that was maybe submerged or another item nearby. Locals have described just how dark it gets here once the sun goes down. They hope if anything can come from this tragedy, it's that better lighting is installed for water users in the area, particularly on the barges anchored by the bridge. There's no lights on them, they should have solar panels so they can have a light on them at night or something so people know they're there. Something to be looked at in the days, weeks and months ahead as this community looks to a future now missing, one of their own. Samara Gardner, 10 News.
