Coco Gauff and Naomi Osaka are set to compete in the fourth round of the U.S. Open, marking their first meeting at the tournament since 2019. At that time, Osaka defeated a then-15-year-old Gauff, but the dynamic has shifted with Gauff now holding a higher ranking and Osaka returning to form after a break from tennis.

The last time the 2 played each other was at the same event in 2019 when a 21 year-old Osaka defeated 15 year-old goth in straight sets for more on this let's bring in Charlie Eccles share he is a tennis writer for the athletic and joins me now from Flushing Meadows. Great to see you Charlie. You know a lot has changed since the pair last faced off at the U.S. Open. What can we expect to see from today's match and who do you think will have the edge to make it to the next round. It's a really tough one to cool. I mean, yeah, lots change obviously back then Coco golf was so young. She was so new to the tour and soccer was the defending U.S. Open champion. Now, it's golf. Who's the more highly ranked player who's, you know, had the far better results over the last couple years. Obviously a soccer took a break from the sport after birth of a child. It's a really tough one to say though, because a soccer has found some form and she loves the big occasion, you know, when she gets the quarterfinal of a slam she wins. So if she wins today, she'll be at that point and she'll then be thinking she can go on and win the tournament. Coco golf has been experimenting with this new serve, which has been okay. It was better in her third match, but the first two is pretty ropey. So is a soccer going to punish that today? There are so many little subplots and it's an honesty really tough ones are cool. Yeah, they both have such interesting stories on and off the course. Looking forward to that one. I'm turning now to the men's singles tournament. Novak Djokovic progressing to the quarterfinals to keep his dream alive of lifting a 25th Grand Slam title. But now we know he will face Taylor Fritz. So can the American crash the party here? Well, Djokovic has won all 10 of their previous meetings. So that's a lot of baggage. The Fritz is carrying in this matchup. Admittedly, the Djokovic now compared to then isn't quite as strong. And what Fritz is going to have to do is try and forget about all that and just think about this match in isolation and think I'm playing against the 38 year old Novak Djokovic. I'm not playing against Pete Djokovic and back himself that his top level will be better despite, you know, all the evidence from their previous matches. I think it'll be closer. Like I think he should at least push Djokovic but Djokovic just knows how to work his way through a best of five set match and I'd still make Novak the favorite for this one. Yeah, it's such a mental game in doubles tonight. We know tennis icon Venus Williams keeping her us open dream alive after making it through to the third round. We know that she hasn't made it to this stage of a Grand Slam since the 2018 French Open with of course, her sister Serena. So talk about your expectations here. That's been such a fun story. Her and later Fernandez Fernandez has been playing great as well. They just look like they're having a ball on court together. So I think and yeah, I think everyone, you know, behind me here at the stadium is hoping that they kind of just ride the wave of that momentum and of all the crowd support. It's become such like a place to be, you know, whatever caught Venus and they were playing on, you know, tricky opponents, Alexandra and Shang. But yeah, yeah, I think they can do it.
