Residents expressed joy at the festivities while acknowledging the ongoing challenges and remembering those impacted by the war, particularly in Gaza. Palestinian police maintained a presence during the celebrations, as the city experiences a cautious revival amid continued tensions in the West Bank.

The giant tree, absent throughout the war in Gaza, stood once again in the town square. Bethlehem is celebrating Christmas today after two years of sorrow, pain and suffering endured by the Palestinian people. Today there is a Christmas tree, scout groups, decorations and everything else. There is joy and happiness. Tourism is the backbone of this West Bank city. Local officials say around 80% of residents depend on tourism-related businesses. Many were pushed to the brink during the war. Now tourists are slowly returning. So is hope for recovery. Merry Christmas to all of you. This year we want a Christmas full of light because this is what we need. After two years of darkness, we need light. We know the problems are still on the ground, but we need to turn the page and look forward to an open horizon for our future. Palestinian police maintained a presence in the city square as celebrations continued, with many residents still thinking of those affected by war. We are happy today, especially since we have been suffering for a while from the pains and tragedies of war, especially for our people in Gaza. We ask God to spread safety, security and stability for them. And we hope that all people of the world consider the people of Gaza. Tensions remain high across the West Bank. But for Bethlehem, this Christmas marks a fragile return to life after years of loss.
