In addition to the childcare reforms, the government has announced a multi-million dollar upgrade to the Tangara train fleet, which has been in service since 1988. The refurbishment will improve accessibility, safety, and reliability, with the aim of keeping the fleet operational for another decade while plans for a new generation of trains are developed.

For the staff on the floor, it's not a big change. But one that marks a big shift towards transparency in the childcare sector, with providers also required to prominently display these information sheets. Detailing their current and previous quality ratings, any serious recent breaches or any prosecutions. They have two weeks to get into gear before hefty fines apply. What we'd really want is that nobody is prosecuted or fined with those heavy fines because they are all making their services safer. We need the support from government to get that culture change in the sector. The key part is doing the most common sense things first. We've got a lot more changes. Not the only changes the men's government is hopping on board with. In 1988, these futuristic trains hit the tracks. People in cities all over the world could be travelling on trains like this one. We still are. These trains are about three or four times less reliable than a modern Waratah train. Over the next three years, all 55 will go from looking like this to this. More than a paint job, accessibility will be improved, safety features added, computers upgraded, and fewer maintenance faults promised. These trains will be as good as new. They'll be reliable, they'll turn up on time. One in four Sydney train trips is on one of these, and it's hoped this multi-million dollar makeover will keep the fleet rolling for another decade, while the government steams ahead to deliver the next generation of Tangaras. Plans well underway for what we're describing as the future fleet. We'd like to see those manufactured here in New South Wales. Tallulah Thompson, 10 News.
