Students from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Academy in Chicago visited Rome, where they met Pope Leo XIV. The visit followed a school-organized mock conclave in which the students experienced the process of electing a pope, even selecting one of their own as 'Pope Augustus Wilk.'

During their trip, the students attended a public papal audience and had the opportunity to meet Pope Leo XIV in person. The encounter included a brief exchange where a student gave the Pope their hat, which he wore before returning it. The event was a highlight for the students, who brought their cardinal costumes from the mock conclave to the Vatican.

But in a way, these kids feel like they've been here before. It is time for our conclave to begin. In May, their school organized a mock conclave. We really have no idea who's going to get chosen. Kids dressed as cardinals and felt real pressure in picking a pope. Here! Soon after students selected Pope Augustus Wilk, cardinals elected Pope Leo XIV, a fellow Chicagoan from the Order of St. Augustine. We found a pope from Chicago. USA! News of the mini-conclave made it all the way to Rome. The kids made it here, too. And they've brought their cardinal costumes with them. God bless you all.
