The proposal follows similar facilities being rejected in nearby Kansas City and Jackson County, and was initiated after Congressman Mark Alford offered the land to ICE. County officials emphasize representing the preferences of local voters, who largely supported Trump administration policies.

There's about 70 acres of land behind me that's on the table for ice to build a detention center if the agency chooses to do so. And I've already shared the voices of residents near the Belton location. So I'm gauging the interest in residents in the county seats. We need it. But you know, a lot of people just don't want that close. It's not good for our city. It's not a good look. An ice detention center in Cass County continues to be on residents minds. I don't like the violent way that they are treating these people as Cass County reporter. I first brought you this story last week after fielding calls and digging into a letter sent by Republican Congressman Mark Alford to ice offering land to build a facility in the county. There are other optional sites, one including the Criminal Justice Center site further south for Cass County. There's 70 acres there that the county owns. Assessor records show two parcels which are owned by the county. The city of Harrisonville told me on the phone that the land sits in city limits and they won't comment without seeing plans or a proposal. It was the first they'd heard about the proposition. But this comes after Kansas City and Jackson County pushed back on an ice facility deal. Presiding Commissioner Bob Houston told me on friday bringing federal dollars and jobs was good for the county. The county voted for trump almost 70% countywide. So they were in favor for these policies that he's putting in place now. Uh whether some people north of us like it or or they don't. So um that's who I represent and that's who they elected to uh to run the country and that's what they want and we're gonna support him too. While we use the same venom and go after those people that aren't paying their fair share of taxes.
