We have Rachel Aragon live in South L.A. now with more on how food banks are really bracing for impact. Rachel. Due to the ongoing government shutdown, many people here, especially in the L.A. area, don't know how they'll pay for their grocery bill starting next month. In fact, right here at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, I talked to one organizer right now. They tell me they are purchasing even more food right now to brace for a bigger demand in the next few weeks. Take a look here, though. We know the federal government recently announcing, though, that the funding for the SNAP program, though, is set to lapse November 1st, which is tomorrow. To give you an idea of the impact that this federal program has on millions of Americans, it assists 42 million low-income people every single year, meaning nearly one in eight people receive the SNAP benefits each month. Well, L.A. area is preparing for what could be a huge influx of people, and many residents already concerned about how they'll put food on the table. Said I'll better go and get something for I have a disabled son, and I said I better go and get something. It's different right now. There's always an urgent need to feed people, but urgent need right now because of what's happening with the government shutdown, and people are afraid they're going to lose their EBT benefits, and they're scared. Now, that was Christie's Foundation. They're at Northridge, who needs more volunteers and donations. But back here live at the L.A. Regional Food Bank, they also need more volunteers and donations as well to brace for that government shutdown impacting benefits. And one more thing I want to mention, again, the holidays are not that far away, which usually means people need more food as well during that time.
