Brisbane artist Rae Sahili has merged her interests in clay target shooting and art to create distinctive sculptures, including reflective spheres and giant flowers. Her recent wearable art piece, adorned with shotgun shell casings, was showcased on the runway and received recognition at the Wearable Arts Festival on the Sunshine Coast.

Sahili is among 230 artists set to exhibit at the Swell Sculpture Festival, which will expand its site this year due to changes in the local beaches following Cyclone Alfred. The festival will feature a variety of works, with some details kept as a surprise for visitors.

Rae Sahili has been fine tuning her skills for the last five years, creating all manners of high calibre art from reflective spheres to giant flowers, each sculpture a combination of chance and chaos. Hours and hours and weeks and weeks and a lot of blood, sweat and tears. This spectacular piece was a crowd favourite, making its debut on the runway over the weekend, scoring her a win at the Wearable Arts Festival on the Sunshine Coast. The headpiece alone weighs one and a half kilos, adorned with shotgun shell casings. It's a 27 metre runway and it actually, one petal at a time, opened up in front of the audience. Rae is one of 230 artists from across the country who will have their work on display for the Swell Sculpture Festival in September, but this year's event will look a little different. This year with Cyclone Alfred, it's certainly changed the look and feel of the beaches that we know it now, so what we've done is expanded the site from Corumban down to Tugan. As for what you can expect on display... That will be something that actually spins, I'm not going to tell you exactly what it is, you'll have to come down to Corumban Beach and have a look.
