The bloc specifically advocated for changes to the IMF quota system, which determines member states' financial contributions and access to loans, and expressed support for a more inclusive, transparent, and balanced calculation formula.

In addition to financial reforms, BRICS leaders, led by Brazil's president, emphasized the need for fair and equitable governance of artificial intelligence technologies. The group adopted a declaration on AI governance, stressing that the development and benefits of AI should not be limited to a few countries or individuals, but should be accessible and regulated under a fair global framework.

Through the vision for IMF reform, we will engage more countries in the 17th General Review of IMF quotas. Brazil supports an inclusive quota realignment process, with a simple, balanced and transparent calculation formula. But global finance was not the only concern for the group. Brazil's president also called for fairer governance of artificial intelligence technologies. By adopting the Declaration on Artificial Intelligence Governance, BRICS is sending a clear and unequivocal message. New technologies must operate within a fair, inclusive and equitable governance framework. The development of artificial intelligence cannot become a privilege of a few countries or a tool of manipulation in the hands of billionaires. This year, Brazil is at the helm of the BRICS under the group's rotating presidency.
