Her perseverance paid off as she competed at the World Championships, where she won her first gold medal. Johnson credited the support of those around her for helping her through setbacks, making her comeback and victory especially meaningful.

As evidenced by the number of injuries I've had, it is not easy. My name is Breezy Johnson. I'm an alpine speed skier, meaning downhill and super G, and I'm from Jackson Hole, Wyoming. January of 2022, my Olympic journey ended in Cortina. There's a very famous big jump in the middle of the course. I went off, I was like expletive, expletive, expletive, landed, felt my right knee crunch beneath me, and I was like, I've just blown my knee apart. I hoped that I was wrong, but I knew that my Olympic journey to Beijing was over. And it was hard because I was like, I don't know how I'm going to be able to come back and try to accomplish these dreams that you've worked your whole life for that I finally felt ready to go and accomplish. I worried on that day that my career was over. Today at the World Championships, the American Breezy Johnson will be first. You know, the longer your journey is, you know, when you go through things and you fail, there's so many people who come in around you and continue to believe in you, and that means so much. Breezy Johnson is a first-time gold medalist at the World Championships. And then to be able to bring something home, it means even more because the group of people that you get to share it with is even bigger. What a spectacular comeback.
