The news conference started with a mariachi band performance and several other elected officials spoke, but Mayor Michelle Wu says Boston is not backing down saying the city follows the law unlike the Trump administration. Over the last several months we've watched Donald Trump send the National Guard into LA and DC to stoke fear and disorder. Boston stands with these cities as they sue over his abuse of power. We have reviewed those cases and we are prepared to stand up for our city's rights if we need to. I obtained the letter Mayor Wu sent to Attorney General Pam Bondi today. Wu saying Boston is a beacon of freedom and a home for everyone. The Department of Justice released a place of places they believe are unlawful sanctuary jurisdictions and includes 12 states, 4 counties and 18 cities. The Trump administration says changes are needed in these areas, pointing out the arrest of violent criminals during ICE raids including here in Boston. The letter from Bondi last week warned officials they should comply with President Trump's immigration policies or face prosecution. It also threatened to pull federal funding. So far other sanctuary jurisdictions have responded claiming they already comply with the feds on immigration enforcement. Others are saying that they have no plans to change anything and Colorado's governor today saying Colorado is not a sanctuary state. Now Bondi posted on X this week saying that any sanctuary jurisdictions that continue to put illegal migrants over American citizens can either meet them at the table or meet them in court.
