CBS News has aired an exclusive interview with Ahmed Al Ahmed, the man who intervened during an anti-Semitic attack at a Hanukkah celebration on Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia. Al Ahmed described how he tackled and disarmed one of the gunmen as hundreds fled, an act that authorities say saved many lives.

Al Ahmed, who was shot five times by a second gunman and recently released from the hospital, expressed both pride in saving others and sorrow for the victims. He and others who responded to the attack will be awarded Australia's National Medal of Bravery.

As hundreds fled and gunfire rang out, Ahmed Al Ahmed ran toward the gunman, tackling him to the ground. I jumped in his back, hit him, and hold him with my right hand, and start saying a word, you know, like to warn him, drop your gun. In a world exclusive, CBS' Anna Koren spoke to the 44-year-old. I don't want to hear his gun. I don't want to, you know, see people screaming and begging, you know, asking help, help. And that's my soul ask me to do that. And all and everything in my heart and my brain, everything, it's worked, you know, just to manage and to save the people's life.
