A video has leaked of a prank in which NRL player Reece Walsh filmed himself drinking toilet water. He has since confirmed the toilet had just been installed.

NRL player Reece Walsh attracted widespread attention online after sharing a video on his social media in which he appears to drink water from a toilet at his home. The toilet was confirmed to be newly installed and unused, with Walsh stating there was nothing unhygienic about the act.

The Brisbane Broncos described the video as a poor attempt at humour and advised that none of Walsh’s followers, particularly children, should copy his actions. Local officials, including the Gold Coast mayor, also commented on the incident, with some questioning the judgement behind the video.

I mean, why would you drink the toilet water? There's lots of bacteria in toilet water. Of course there is. That's why it's in a toilet. What's he thinking? Not a lot. Does he know it's never been used? Does he know bulldoze? Now, we have heard from the Brisbane Broncos. They say this is clearly a poor attempt at humour. They also say none of his thousands of followers, including young children, should copy what he has done. We heard from Rhys Walsh himself a short time ago. OK, so obviously the joke didn't go down too funny with some. So there you go. It might all be perhaps a bit of a non-event. Rhys Walsh saying the toilet was freshly installed at his home. No one had used it and there was nothing unhygienic about it. We did ask the Gold Coast mayor this morning, Tom Tate, for his thoughts on what's happened. And he says that if Rhys Walsh really wanted to drink out of a toilet, he certainly earns enough money. Perhaps he should have sprung for a bidet instead.
