A spate of recent attacks across NSW's beaches were all committed by bull sharks, which are larger in number after a big rainfall season.

Experts and officials stress that while the risk is temporary, no safety measure can completely eliminate the danger, and improved warning systems are needed to better inform the public.

The water quality is crap. It's just very, very murky. I certainly wouldn't be going for a dip. Scientists say more moorlings doesn't mean there are more sharks. What the science tells us is the weather conditions of late, be that the swell, the rainfall, the warmer-than-average sea temperatures, have all been conducive to a spike in bull shark activity. The heightened risk is temporary, and experts are pushing back on calls for extreme action. Colour's not going to work pure and simple, no. It's not going to achieve what everyone wants, and that is improve safety. Along the northern beaches, more drones and drumlines are being deployed. We are flying now continuously at 10 beaches up and down the northern beaches for the next 48 hours. As for more permanent options... When we look at shark nets, it's like having a fly screen door with mesh as wide as your thumb and hoping you're going to keep the flies out. It's not going to work. It is impossible to completely remove the risk, and nothing can fully protect swimmers. But the Premier admits warning systems and communication about dangerous conditions needs to be beefed up. These conditions are going to exist for the next few days, and even if the sun comes out tomorrow and it looks like it's calm, it's still not safe. Some swimmers still braved the water today, at beaches and in the harbour. I don't have a silver bullet here. It's a really... It's a difficult one.
