Southeast Asian foreign ministers met in Malaysia to try to restore a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia after two weeks of fierce fighting that has killed at least 60 people and displaced more than half a million. Ongoing violence along the Thailand-Cambodia border has forced over 500,000 people to flee conflict-affected areas in Cambodia and displaced an additional 400,000 on the Thai side. The conflict has led to school closures, disrupted education for many children, and left entire villages empty or destroyed, with evacuees living in shelters.

In response, foreign ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have convened in Kuala Lumpur to seek a solution and revive a previously brokered ceasefire. The Malaysian foreign minister has called on both countries to adhere to the terms of the peace accord, as the humanitarian situation remains unresolved.

The country's already strained education system is under pressure. But some schools in other provinces are able to take in very small numbers of displaced students. This one has accepted 13 refugees and is helping them catch up. It impacted my studies. I'm now in ninth grade and have important exams coming up soon. The conflict between Cambodia and its neighbor Thailand over a border dispute has also displaced 400,000 on the Thai side. Entire villages are empty or destroyed. The villagers have been evacuated to shelters, leaving only us security personnel in the area. When can villagers return home? Not yet. Staying in the shelters will continue. It depends on the situation. It's not over yet. While people remain evacuated, foreign ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations have gathered in Kuala Lumpur to try and find a solution to the conflict. They are seeking to revive a short-lived ceasefire brokered by Malaysia and U.S. President Donald Trump in October. As the summit opened, the Malaysian foreign minister pushed Thailand and Cambodia to adhere to the terms of the peace accord.

A Russian general was killed by an explosive device underneath his car in Moscow, according to Russian investigators, who say Ukraine's intelligence services may have orchestrated the attack. Ukraine has not commented.
