Police declared the gathering an unlawful assembly and dispersed crowds with assistance from state authorities.

A prayer vigil was held at the state capitol, drawing thousands who called for justice for Renee Good and voiced concerns about ICE activities in Minnesota. The Department of Homeland Security stated the agent acted in self-defense, a claim disputed by many community members and attendees at the vigil, including Governor Tim Walz.

Tense moments last night as a large protest moves through part of downtown Minneapolis. The focus of protesters, two hotels where ICE agents are believed to be staying. According to Minneapolis police, at least 30 people were cited and released. They say this all started around 8 p.m. near the Canopy Hotel before moving to the Depot Renaissance Hotel where property damage was reported. Our crew went looking for some of that damage this morning, but we haven't been able to find any at this point. Police say during the evening, officers investigating a suspicious vehicle on a sidewalk were surrounded by a crowd resulting in minor injuries to one officer. But police do also clarify that officer did not require medical attention. By 945, the group returned to the Canopy Hotel where police say some individuals forced their way inside through an alley. Throughout the night, people reportedly threw rocks and ice and snow at police and passing cars. Minneapolis police declared an unlawful assembly just after 10 o'clock last night, issuing multiple disposal orders to clear the streets. You heard one of them a moment ago, and the crowd was eventually thinned out by about 1 or 2 a.m. this morning with assistance from State Patrol and the DNR. We are aware of additional protests that are planned for later on today. Meantime, going to a live look at 34th and Portland where Renee Good was shot and killed by an ICE agent earlier this week. Yesterday morning, the barricades were taken down by the city so emergency responders can continue to move through there. The traffic is flowing. It is down to one lane. You can see some of the area is coned off and that is in part so the memorial can stay and people still have access to that. And while people have gathered at the memorial for several days, last night a prayer vigil for Renee Good was held at the state capitol as many look for hope and justice. Our Leon Purvis was there. We are gentle, loving people, and we are singing, singing for our lives. Thousands gathered at the state capitol in honor of 37-year-old Renee Good, religious leader standing in unity. Today, we demand justice for Renee Good. Good was shot and killed Wednesday morning by ICE agent Jonathan Ross. The Department of Homeland Security says Ross acted out of self-defense and fear of his life, claiming she weaponized her vehicle. Many in the community are angry and disagree with Homeland Security's claim. She was looking out for her neighbors when she was shot. Like George Floyd, I think she's going to be a symbol of change. These feelings are repeated by hundreds of people, including some who traveled from outside the metro, who gathered to share their grief and voice concern about ICE activity in Minnesota. That shouldn't happen here, that shouldn't happen anywhere, and so her name deserves to be remembered. She was just trying to ensure that that continued of law and order, of peaceful protest. Many in the crowd held candles, anti-ICE signs, and sang songs. Also in attendance, Governor Tim Walz, surrounded by state troopers. Renee passed away for protecting immigrants and people who were having their lives disrupted unfairly. But I think in general, we're here as a commitment to justice and equality.
