Anthropic has closed a deal on a new funding round that nearly triples its valuation to $183 billion, raising $13 billion from investors in a larger-than-expected haul that makes the AI company one of the most valuable startups in the world.

The company raised $13 billion in this round, with significant demand from investors, reflecting strong traction in enterprise markets and real-world revenues.

The funding round was led by Iconic, with co-leads Fidelity and Lightspeed, and included participation from Qatar's investment authority and Singapore's sovereign wealth fund. Anthropic's focus remains on enterprise customers, with approximately 300,000 business clients and notable adoption of its Claude code product among software engineers and computer scientists.

One hundred eighty three billion dollars just boggles the mind Ed. Yeah. One hundred eighty three billion dollars post money valuation is triple the valuation it got earlier this year. Sixty one point five billion dollars. And Bloomberg had reported that first Anthropic wanted to raise five billion then 10 billion. All told the round ended up being 13 billion dollars. Heavy demand. It's something that's not unique. Right. Like we've seen in the reporting from Bloomberg open A.I. at five hundred billion dollars. The story that we broke Elon Musk's A.I. thinking about a very quick follow on at a two hundred billion dollar valuation. But it partly reflects traction in the real world and revenues in the real world. There's some of the model makers or frontier model names are getting. And in front of its case particularly with enterprise customers particularly with enterprise customers. Do we have any more hard data on how many customers it has and what it's been doing. Yeah. Its focus has been the enterprise rather than say a generative A.I. tool face of the consumer which was very much the early story of chat GPT. So Claude or Anthropic generally have about three hundred thousand business customers. They also have Claude code which is used by a number of software engineers computer scientists and sort of pointed differentiation. We've seen in M&A activity in space that those code based startups like very important particularly just trying to feed the beast of bringing out new models and an almost annual cadence. But they've had a lot of success and traction early in Claude's case with everything from the banks to health care and other financial services names. Let's talk a little bit more about the funding. I'm curious who it got investments from. Who are some of the large investors who joined in. Yes. So iconic led the round with co-leads Fidelity and Lightspeed. But the story here the kind of background story is that Qatar's investment authority the QIA participated in the round as did Singapore's sovereign wealth fund. And remember that Dario Amadei the CEO and founder of Anthropic has talked in the past about concerns that one day Anthropic take money from authoritarian regimes. You know this is something that's been deeply reported. But right now the capital is coming from the Gulf and Middle East. A lot of the build out and infrastructure is also coming in the Gulf and the Middle East. You know in video and AMD recently with the president's visit to that region getting significant deals there on the infrastructure side. So the fact that Qatar participated is notable but we have very thin detail about where they sit on the cap table on the cap table. Sorry. And how much they contributed.
