Despite a tentative agreement between the airline and its flight attendants union, many travellers remain stranded and face difficulties rebooking flights or obtaining information.

The airline has mobilized staff to assist with rebookings and is offering flexible travel options, including refunds and changes without fees. However, passengers report long wait times and limited success in securing new flights. Air Canada has announced plans for an exceptional policy to cover some transportation expenses incurred during the disruption, but details remain unclear.

There are finally some Air Canada planes back in the skies after a three-day strike that left hundreds of flights grounded but many passengers could be stranded for days. Are you ready? After taking home 15 awards at the Roboworld Cup in South Korea, these kids couldn't wait to get back to Canada to celebrate. Five days later and many are still not home. It's not something like that. We are not one, two or three people. We are kind of 40 people here, which is right now we are almost half, we send them, but the stress, the logistic management. Air Canada has now reached a tentative agreement with its flight attendants union but members still have to ratify the deal. The contract dispute affected more than half a million passengers. The airline warns it could take another week to ten days to get to full service. We've got 5,000 Air Canada co-workers mobilized to re-book our customers. We're offering re-bookings both now in Air Canada that we're back in the air as well as 120 other airlines including our competitors. We're offering customers the ability to change their travel dates with no change fee for up to a year from now and for those where it's appropriate, we're also offering refunds. But frustrated, travellers say the reality is very different. Nothing is working. I've not seen a single passenger that has gone to reservation and succeeded to talk to somebody or have someone answer on the other side of the phone. I looked it up, there's a clause saying that they will re-book with another airline. I just waited in line for an hour and they told me they can't do that because air transit won't give them a good deal. I can't reach anybody, can't get any information online. Even travel agents are struggling to re-book passengers. Right now we have special phone lines for agents but I know there's huge, huge wait times, even for us. There are some though who have had success. This woman has been waiting for five days. At this point we just got boarding passes to get to Vancouver so, fingers crossed. She, one of the lucky few who managed to get a flight, Air Canada says 15 to 20% of its 700 daily flights are now running. So Sarah, passengers are entitled to some protections here. Yeah, and it's under the Air Passenger Protection Regulations. You can either get a refund or Air Canada to re-book you but re-booking is limited. Air Canada is, after all, the largest airline in the country. And if you feel those rights weren't properly followed, you can file a complaint with the Canadian Transportation Agency. Just don't expect an answer quickly. They have a major backlog of complaints. All right, Sarah Leavitt at the Montreal Airport tonight. Thank you. Late tonight, Air Canada released a statement promising new support for passengers. The company says, we will be introducing an exceptional policy tomorrow towards covering transportation expenses, which customers may have incurred to get to their destination during this disruption. The airline doesn't say how much will be paid or who will qualify.
