Tens of thousands of football fans have been following the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations at a fan zone on the international campus of Riad, an upscale district of Rabat.

Since the Africa Cup of Nations began on December 21, nearly one million spectators have attended matches in nine stadiums across Morocco. For those unable to secure tickets, a large fan zone on the international campus in Rabat has become a popular alternative, particularly for students and young fans.

The 5,000-square-metre fan zone accommodates up to 50,000 people and is especially valued by the 20,000 African postgraduates from 47 countries studying in Morocco. The initiative allows fans to experience the tournament's excitement in a communal setting, fostering connections among supporters from across the continent until the tournament's conclusion.

As students, we often don't have the chance to get tickets to go and watch matches in stadiums, but with this fan zone, we can follow matches peacefully and with the atmosphere. We really thank the organisers who took the initiative of setting up this zone. The zone covers 5,000 square metres and can accommodate up to 50,000 spectators. It's proving particularly popular with students and younger fans. About 20,000 African postgraduates from 47 countries are studying in Moroccan universities and high schools. The initiative allows them to get involved in the tournament without having to pay for a sometimes pricey stadium ticket. Watching the games in the fan zone is also a way to bond with supporters from all around the continent. More countries took part in this year's Africa Cup of Nations and many brought fans along to Morocco. We are not in our country but it's as if we were at home because we are living the matches with the Moroccans and people from all the other countries. We are happy because we are in a festive atmosphere. This strengthens the relationships between us and our African brothers. Fans will be able to enjoy the rapid zone until the AFCON final on Sunday.

Analysts say the discussions could be pivotal in clarifying U.S. intentions, easing tensions and reinforcing commitments to Greenland’s sovereignty in the face of strategic interests from Washington.
