The pandas enjoyed a feast of apples, vegetables, and special treats, as well as presents and bubble baths, to commemorate their first spring in Australia. Xingqiu and Yilan replaced the previous panda pair, Wang Wang and Funi, who returned to China after 15 years at the zoo. The new pandas have quickly become popular attractions, drawing attention both locally and internationally. While zoo-goers are hopeful for panda cubs in the future, staff note that the young pandas are still adjusting to their new environment and independent living.

If you imagine a diet of bamboo and just bamboo, an apple or a carrot is like our equivalent of maybe a little slice of chocolate. They replaced original panda pair Wong Wong and Foonie, who returned to China in November after calling Adelaide home for 15 years. Xingqiu and Yilan already a big hit. Just, like, seeing them roam around. They're just really chill. Not just in our backyard, but also across the world. At this moment, I am the only panda influencer in Adelaide, but there's a lot of people watching me online. Australia remains the only country in the southern hemisphere to have Chinese pandas on loan. While today has all been about celebrating another lap around the sun, zoo-goers are hoping we might celebrate the pitter-patter of panda paws soon. These animals would be like young teens. They're just getting used to life in a different part of the world, and for what them is actually their first stages of living by themselves. Probably still a few years off.
