A teenager has been taken to hospital in a critical condition after he was stabbed in the neck and back at a bus stop outside a busy Merrylands train station.

A 16-year-old boy was critically injured after being stabbed in the neck and back at a bus stop outside Merrylands train station. The incident occurred during a busy period, with security cameras capturing two males, one in black and another in high-visibility clothing, fleeing the scene. 

Police believe the attack followed a minor brawl between two groups, with the offenders leaving and then returning to assault the teenager. Authorities are seeking two males, one reportedly wearing a balaclava, and have urged the suspects to come forward. The victim was later reported to be in stable condition at Westmead Hospital.

Police helicopters were deployed to search for the males. Security cameras captured two males running towards the scene at the time, one in black and one wearing high-vis. Minutes later they were captured fleeing past construction workers. From the way they were running I know, yeah, they must have done something very funny and they were running looking back and just heading that way. Detectives say they want to speak with two males dressed in black, one wearing a balaclava. Police say 15 minutes prior to the attack the two groups were involved in a minor brawl where the offenders left the area but then returned and pounced on the team. One witness, too afraid to be on camera, saw the blade flash past her. He was holding a knife running towards me. I started hiding you know because I was afraid. Police are asking the attackers to hand themselves in. Very nice, it's not safe, the train station is so bad to the extreme that people are getting stabbed every month. The teenager was this afternoon in a stable condition in Westmead Hospital. Sarah Naven, 10 News.
