However, upon reviewing the game tape due to confusion over the scoreboard, coach Brendan King discovered that his team had actually lost the game. Although league rules stated that the final score could not be changed, the coach informed his team, and they unanimously agreed it would be wrong to keep the trophy. The team then appealed to have the championship awarded to their opponents, Apache High School, and the league agreed. Coach King personally delivered the championship plaque to Apache, earning praise for his and his team's integrity.
