The Nobel committee highlighted that MOFs are constructed from metal nodes and organic linkers, forming cage-like structures that can trap and release molecules. These materials have significant potential for environmental applications, including cleaning 'forever chemicals' from water, breaking down drug residues, and advancing carbon capture and green energy technologies.
