Authorities have stated that a family-related incident cannot be ruled out, and Staltzer's two adopted teenage children, who made the emergency call, have been taken into custody. Local media reports indicate that police had previously been called to the residence for domestic violence concerns. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed concern for Staltzer's condition and wished for her recovery.
