This significant decline has been attributed to several policy changes, including increased border militarization, the near shutdown of the American asylum system for illegal entrants, and the end of releasing migrants into the U.S. interior. Additionally, cooperation with Mexico and other countries has helped prevent migrants from reaching the U.S. border.
