Mayor Pat Burns, a supporter of President Trump, led the initiative, which was unanimously approved by the city council. 

This local move is part of a broader national debate, with several cities and states taking positions either for or against sanctuary policies. While the Trump administration has threatened to withhold federal funding from sanctuary jurisdictions, such efforts have been blocked in the courts. The issue remains contentious, with differing opinions among local and national leaders on the role of law enforcement in immigration matters.
