Despite his resignation, President Emmanuel Macron has asked Lecornu to conduct final discussions with political parties to try to stabilize the government and report back on the possibility of forming a viable coalition.

The political situation remains fragile, with former finance minister Bruno Le Maire stepping down and opposition parties divided between calls for new elections, Macron's resignation, or a cohabitation arrangement. Macron has indicated he is prepared to take responsibility if efforts to form a government fail, which could lead to another round of legislative elections.
