A new social media trend, dubbed "subway surfing," shows people hopping on top of a moving subway train and riding it. But the trend has proven to be deadly, and "CBS Saturday Morning" meets the mother of a boy who lost his life attempting the stunt.

A growing social media trend called subway surfing has led to a series of tragic incidents in New York City, with 16 deaths and 20 injuries reported over the past three years. The average age of those involved is just 14, with victims as young as 11 years old. 

The mother of one victim, Zachary Nazario, has filed lawsuits against TikTok and Instagram, alleging their platforms enabled the spread of dangerous content. In response, the New York City Police Department has deployed drones to monitor subway cars and prevent further incidents, reporting that over 200 people have been stopped since the initiative began.
