Costa Rica is advancing its efforts to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), according to Trade Minister Manuel Tovar. The country is currently not pursuing new trade negotiations with the European Union or the Mercosur bloc, focusing instead on opportunities in the Indo-Pacific region.

The European Union has also shown interest in engaging with the CPTPP, and other countries such as South Korea and Indonesia are seeking to join the partnership. Costa Rica aims to complete its accession process by the end of the year, reflecting a broader trend of countries prioritizing Indo-Pacific trade relations.

Es aproximadamente el tercer bloque comercial del mundo, ya la Unión Europea ha expresado algún tipo de interés en potencialmente hacer negocios con el CPTPP, si eso ocurriera que sin duda se convertiría de este bloque en el mayor bloque comercial en términos de PIB en el mundo, sin China, sin los EE.UU., hacer las economías más grandes fuera de este bloque. Así que es algo interesante, y por supuesto creo que esto captará el interés de otros países, Corea del Sur e Indonesia también están haciendo cola para concluir nuestro proceso. Nuestro objetivo es concluir el nuestro a finales de este año.
