Human Rights Watch has reported that approximately 50 civilians have been killed in three separate jihadist attacks in northern Burkina Faso since May. The attacks were attributed to the al-Qaeda-linked Shnim group and the Islamic State in the Sahel province. Specific incidents included attacks in Djibo and Yuba by Shnim, resulting in 40 deaths, and an attack on a humanitarian convoy by IS-Sahel, killing at least nine civilians.

The organisation stated that these assaults constitute violations of international humanitarian law and are considered apparent war crimes. Despite the military junta's pledges to restore security under Ibrahim Traoré, such attacks continue. Human Rights Watch has urged the government to enhance civilian protection and to investigate and prosecute those responsible, including within the military, but has not received a response from authorities.
