Well, this get-together every four years between the incoming and the outgoing governor in Virginia is a tradition that dates back centuries, and here in Richmond, the incoming governor, Democrat Abigail Spanberger, and the outgoing governor, Republican Glenn Youngkin, got together today saying they wanted to make sure this was a smooth handoff between the two administrations. Now this meeting kicked off Spanberger's gubernatorial transition. The incoming and outgoing governors have met before. Spanberger, of course, served in Congress representing Virginia before running for governor and making history as Virginia's first female governor on Tuesday. Now the governor-elect was telling Fox 5 today that she will focus on the priorities that she laid out in the campaign. Priorities like housing, the economy, lowering health care costs once she takes office. Obviously, there's going to be some challenges along the way with some of the impacts of some federal legislation on the state, and so continuing both with the very specific bill priorities and administrative priorities that I pushed out in the three plans that we've released over the summer and building upon that. Signs of change can already be seen around the Virginia state capitol. Federal grandstands are being constructed for the inauguration on January 17th. That's when Spanberger takes the oath of office as the Commonwealth's 75th governor. Now Governor Youngkin, who went through this process himself four years ago, tells Fox 5 even though he and the governor-elect are from different political parties, he will be a partner in this transition. That's what this is all about, and that's why this transition period is one of cooperation to make sure that Governor-elect Spanberger's administration is ready to go on day one and any way we can help in that, we'll do. Now the two governors had lunch together. We were told it was Virginia crab cakes, and Spanberger tells Fox 5 she and her family will be living in the Virginia governor's mansion as required by the state constitution. Fox 5 in Richmond.
