A charter bus remains lodged in a partially collapsed parking garage in North Hempstead after falling through the structure. Town officials report that removing the bus will require clearing fencing and trees to allow heavy machinery access, and work permits are being expedited to facilitate the process.

Engineers have inspected the site and are preparing a report that will determine the next steps for removal and possibly identify the cause of the collapse. The incident did not result in any injuries, as only the driver was on board and was safely evacuated. Multiple agencies may be involved in the cleanup due to questions over property ownership.

Work underway to remove charter bus from partial garage collapse

This morning, a coach bus that fell through a North New Hyde Park parking garage is still sitting there this morning more than 36 hours later. Yeah, has it moved? A lot to consider, of course, but the bus is in that partial collapse since Tuesday evening. News to Long Island, Jonathan Gordon at that scene once again this morning. Jonathan, what's the latest there? Well, it may be some more time before that bus is finally removed from the scene. What we're learning right now is according to town officials, crews will likely have to clear out roughly 25 feet of fencing and cut down trees right along this wooded area here and that borders between Union Turnpike and where this bus is still stuck. That may be the only way to be able to get a crane and that big heavy machinery close enough to the area to be able to hoist the bus out of here. What we learned again is that overnight crews cleared the last car that was still parked under where the collapse happened and secured the area. With offense yesterday, engineers hired by the property owner inspected the scene and they're filing a report as of this morning. The town is not yet received that report and until that's done, nothing can happen. The report will outline how and when the to move the bus as well as a possible cause for the collapse. It was Tuesday just after 5 PM when the coach bus fell through the top of the parking garage at 1979 Marcus Ave. Thankfully nobody was hurt and the only one on the bus was the driver and that person was pulled to safety. We're speaking with people stopping near the scene this morning. You're just looking at road, right? You're not thinking it's going to buckle or anything. And so Java probably wasn't even thinking like anything like that would have happened. Now the initial belief from town officials is that that piece of land over there is actually owned by the county. So now you will have multiple organizations, multiple municipalities who may be involved in cleaning this whole scene up.
