Chicago's O'Hare Airport saw nearly half of its morning flights delayed, while parts of northwestern Indiana and Wisconsin also experienced significant snow accumulation and power outages.

The storm, which began overnight, has prompted winter storm warnings in Chicago and surrounding areas, with some locations receiving up to a foot of snow. Utility crews have responded to downed trees and power lines, and authorities warn that dangerous weather will persist in some regions through the evening.

Major part of the travel chaos in the Midwest today is due to an early winter storm. Nearly half of this morning's flights at O'Hare Airport in Chicago are delayed. CBS News meteorologist Rob Marciano is watching all of this for us. Rob, good morning. Hey, good morning, Nate. Yeah, big time cold is coming in and that is triggering some lake effect snows. We had a good pulse last night coming through Chicago. You see that little swirl there, a little bit of a hole, but heavy snow upwards of a foot in some spots. So let's get right to the ground there. Ian Lee is on the ground for us just outside of Chicago. I know the snow tapering off a little bit, but it is cold out there. Good morning, Lee. Good morning, Rob. You know, I think the only time Chicagoans ever drive within the speed limit is when the weather outside is nasty. We only got a couple inches of snow so far, but the wind is howling with gusts up to 50 miles an hour, and we're not out of the woods yet. The heavy snow began overnight, and by the time it's all said and done, we could end up with one of the biggest November snow storms on record. Parts of northwestern Indiana have also seen more than half a foot of snow, and utility crews responded to downed trees and power lines overnight. In Wisconsin, the wintry weather made for some difficult driving near Green Bay, as snow blanketed the Niagara Falls for the first time this season. Here in Chicago, the winter storm warning lasts until noon, and the dangerous weather is expected to last even later in northwestern Indiana, where the warning doesn't lift until later this evening.
