A Bridgeland business owner has found a way to make her business more mobile amid neighborhood construction troubles. Grace Quinn is the owner of All Things GQ, a brick-and-mortar vintage shop along First Avenue Northeast. The area has been under a state of renovation due to the Bridgeland Main Street project. Grace recently purchased a shuttle bus. She's flipping into a mobile vintage shop. What's the story behind the van idea? Well earlier this year we had, so this is different to the Main Street projects that were happening in Bridgeland, so we had the road ripped up for about 11 weeks in the spring and I just celebrated my two-year anniversary in September and we're just in our last year of the lease but earlier this year the construction went on for a lot longer than expected so this seems to be a common thing that's happening in the city which is really frustrating for small business owners so the project was supposed to be about four weeks and they ended up extending it so that was incredibly frustrating because it was kind of out of my control and I figured out you know what I need to kind of be ahead of the eight ball here and I need to think about something if people can't come to me I should go to the people so that's where the idea came about and I actually saw I think it was on TikTok there was a lady in the States that was doing it and she converted what was a food truck but then she converted into a boutique and then I said well I mean vintage is cool on its own but imagine putting it in a bus like that would be perfect and everything I'm doing is just on the whim and I'm honestly the way that I'm saying it is that like you have to go with blind confidence and that's pretty much all I'm doing so we ended up finding a bus actually super recently was gonna be looking in the spring but my dad was on Kijiji as dads do and he was like you need to go check out this bus and it was perfect and I said what the heck we're gonna do it great great dad as an ally detail so great so okay does the bus have a name yet tell us about the bus yeah so I was kind of toying around with the idea to name it something else but I was talking to a friend that's like very much into graphic design and I really trust their advice on these things and honestly she said it's one of those things where brand recognition is so important and I've had my business running since 2021 and I wanted to keep the name the same but we're going for a rebrand so it's going to be all things GQ vintage on the go and then the slogans gonna be second times the charm so that's gonna be on merch we're gonna be doing a whole rebrand with the bus and since second times the charm is a play on words with secondhand clothing play on words with third times the charm and it's technically quote-unquote our second location okay awesome well I love all the storytelling in that thank you what's the work of flipping this bus into being a boutique well it's actually not as crazy as some may seem I'm also insane with timelines like as soon as I have my teeth in something it's going to happen whether everyone likes it or not so right now actually on Saturday I have the amazing group of friends that I have we are going to my friend shop and we are gonna be sandblasting if anyone has a sandblaster that they have at home that they want to help us out with that'd be awesome so we're gonna be sanding the bus getting it down to the bare bones and then hopefully do some coat of paint and then really the inside is just the clothes are gonna speak for itself so it's gonna make the bus look really cool and then do some decor as well and then we're gonna be putting the decals on probably in the next couple weeks as well and we're taking advantage of the beautiful weather this weekend too when do you expect to make your have you driven this thing yet oh yeah oh she drives like a dream yeah so I took it for a test drive and I I knew it was perfect and it really made sense for what I feel comfortable with driving and I actually email market collective just blindly I after I got it I'm like you know what I'm just gonna reach out to them and I said hey like I bought this bus I have a brick-and-mortar and I'm gonna I'd love the debut to be December 5th weekend the first week of market collective and they said yeah let's do it and I said oh okay so you have a deadline that's less than a month less than a month away so the debut of the bus is gonna be December 5th to 7th at market collective and we're driving into the BMO Convention Center oh that's cool so that'll be so definitely come check it out it's gonna be amazing I yeah we're on a crunch time so again really taking advantage of the weather and obviously the community is so on board and super excited about it too that's great well we're we're big market collective people at our house yeah now is there a chance like this the frustrations and the the kind of extended timeline with the Main Street project and the upheaval like is there a chance that you'd let go of the bricks-and-mortar operation honestly the reason so I signed a three-year lease obviously just to see what's going to happen and to see what would make sense for me like I opened the store before I was 25 like I honestly it was always my dream and it's really expensive to operate a physical location so it's one of those things where I'm definitely going to take a big evaluation I'm gonna go you know what what is gonna be worth it for me what is gonna be worth it for my time I've been doing this for years and years and as much as I love it it's really nice to now have a secondary like spot to sell and not have to pay thousands and thousands of dollars in rent so it'll definitely be on the table for conversation and I'm definitely going to look into what makes sense because I love Bridgeland I love the community I really do but the reality is there will be construction and we will lose money and that's what I have to really be focusing on so we are our lease doesn't end till September and we're gonna just we're gonna kind of see next September September September 2026
