It's been a rough last few seasons for the White Sox, but this weekend is about celebrating the 20th anniversary of the 2005 World Series Champions.

The Chicago White Sox commemorated the 20th anniversary of their 2005 World Series victory by unveiling a statue of former pitcher Mark Buehrle in left field. More than 30 members of the championship team, including players, coaches, and broadcasters, attended the reunion event. 

Buehrle, who spent 12 seasons with the White Sox, was recognized for his notable achievements, including 27 complete games, a no-hitter, a perfect game, and multiple Gold Glove awards. Teammates praised Buehrle's contributions and character, recalling memorable moments from his career. The team also reflected on the absence of Bobby Jenks, who recently passed away.

And tonight, one of those players saw himself immortalized at right field with the unveiling of a statue. Cassie Carlson has more from the South Side. More than 30 members of the 2005 World Series Champion White Sox team in attendance for the 20-year reunion weekend. It's a mix of players, coaches, and broadcasters who all said they can't believe it's been two decades since that season. The main highlight for day one, the unveiling of Mark Burley's statue. I think it turned out great. There was, I think the last time I saw it, it was a little bit bigger than I was anticipating. I was like, wow, like I looked at the hands and my hands were like twice the size of my hands. I don't know if you really put it into words. Like it's literally like you don't play the game for any of this. Like I literally went out there and played just because I love baseball and I love competing and you know all the numbers and all that stuff comes of it. But you never think of this number retirement statue. Like that's just, it's not even, I can't even wrap my head around it. Like it just doesn't make sense. Burley pitched 12 seasons on the South Side where he wowed fans with his fast work on the mound, which included 27 complete games, a no hitter, perfect game, and even gold glove defense. When people are saying like you're worthy of this, it's like you earned it. And I'm like, I didn't earn it. Like you don't go out there and play to earn number retirement statue. You go out there and just play to try to win the game. And maybe that's why, because I just left it all out there. I had fun sliding on the tarp. I just in between my starts, I had to have fun because it got boring out there. His teammates equally as happy for the left-hander who they called a great teammate who now prefers to live a low-key life. I joked with him when I saw him. I told him, I said, man, it takes you getting a statue to get you out of the house, huh? He kind of stays to himself and stays on his farm and kind of hangs out there. So it's going to be pretty special to see him unveil that statue. He kind of goes into hiding at times. There's times you text him, you don't hear back from him. Where were you? I was camping for four days. Oh, okay. He was one of my favorites. You know, there was many times where you wouldn't even put a pitch call and I'd just be like, throw whatever you want because your stuff sucks so bad. I'll catch it anyways. And he would laugh. And we had Jermaine Dye calling pitches from right field some games. I mean, we did a lot of crazy things that you would probably not want to recommend to people to do nowadays, but we did it and we got away with it. My first experience in left field, Birdley was on the mound. I saw pitch one and I didn't see the second pitch because I was leaning down and I had no idea how fast he worked. And he had delivered pitch two while I was just kind of looking around and I heard the mitt pop and I looked up. So I do remember that about the first spring training game in 2005. Tomorrow, the 05 team will be honored on the field before game three and every player admitted there's going to be a noticeable missing piece without Bobby Jenks who passed away from stomach cancer on July 4th. Jermaine Dye said most people remember him as that wow closer. He said he remembers him as a complete jokester. At right field, Cassie Carlson, Fox 32 Sports.
