Global average temperature hit a new peak. Sea surface temperature was the warmest since the 18 fifties. And the way glaciers are melting is breaking records to in fact, the glacier I visited in 2023 near the North Pole melted last year faster than any year on record. Yet some people still have doubts that human activity is behind climate change. What has struck you as you've traveled around the world extensively reporting on this? You don't have to look very far for an answer to that. Scientists are learning people can tolerate even less heat than we previously thought. And I've seen first responders adopting new techniques to treat overheated patients out on the field by covering them in ice before taking him to the hospital. There's also more intense flooding driven by climate change in 2024. I met people along the Delaware River, whose homes flood more frequently at great cost to them. And in North Carolina, saw how rising sea levels are washing away some homes, raising questions about the future of coastal communities. This new report is definitely a science story to me. Climate change is much more of a human story.
