Black armbands were worn across the league as a mark of respect, and former teammates gathered to honour his memory.

Selwood was widely regarded not just for his football achievements but also for his roles as a father, brother, and friend. Members of the football community expressed their shock and sadness at his passing, with many noting the significant impact he had on those around him. His family, deeply connected to clubs across Australia, is now mourning the loss of both Adam and his twin brother Troy within a short period.

Before his passing, Adam Selwood was preparing to run a half marathon in honour of Troy, who died earlier in the year, to raise funds for the mental health charity Zero to Hero. The fundraising effort has surpassed its initial target, with support continuing to grow as fans and colleagues recognise Selwood's advocacy for mental health. The Selwood family is now preparing for a second funeral in four months, following the deaths of both twin brothers.

I think that the whole football community will be shocked by what's happened. One of my favourite players when I was watching him back in the day, I loved watching him in 06. Former West Coast teammates came together yesterday while black armbands were worn all around the league. A football family entrenched within so many clubs spreading the pain of Adam Selwood's death deep within. I think the whole footy world's been touched in some way or another by Adam's passing but also Troy. I think it's a great family, you know, that have got a lot of connections all over the Australia and in the football world. Next weekend, the former 06 Premiership player was set to honour his twin brother Troy, setting himself a half marathon challenge to raise funds for mental health charity Zero to Hero after Troy lost his battle in February. Today that donation tally ticked well above his initial $10,000 goal as fans continue to honour his plight. This is a man that was a huge advocate for what we do, for mental health, for his own mental health, his brother. Yeah, it's a pretty shocking reminder that it can happen to anybody.
