President Donald Trump announced the move, along with threats of tariffs on Russia, stating the aim is to pressure Moscow into negotiations. The shipments are reportedly coming from Germany and will be replaced by German stocks, with the U.S. being reimbursed.

Despite the announcement, there is doubt among Ukrainian officials and analysts about the speed and scale of the aid. Experts suggest that, due to bureaucratic processes, significant new weapon deliveries under these contracts may not arrive until 2026. Neither the White House, President Zelensky's office, nor NATO has confirmed details beyond the Patriot systems, and Trump has denied plans to provide Ukraine with long-range weaponry for strikes deep into Russia.

Ukraine's firefighters never stop. Each night, the drones and the missiles come, and homes and factories burn. Vinnytsia in central Ukraine was hit hard overnight, but so were Krivyi Rih, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhia. Donald Trump says air defences, Patriot missile batteries, are being rushed to Ukraine, part of a big surge of weaponry and tariff threats for Russia that the US president announced on Monday. They're already being shipped. From what countries? They're coming in from Germany and then replaced by Germany. And in all cases, the United States gets paid back in full. But are they? Though it undoubtedly wants more, Ukraine already has Patriot systems and uses them often. A resupply of the interceptors they fire was part of an armed shipment stopped by the US Defence Department before Trump ordered it back on again. Oleg Zhdanov, a military analyst, thinks for now Ukraine won't get much more than the delayed completion of this package. In the near future, nothing is expected. We know how the bureaucratic machine works, especially in European countries, NATO members, and the US. That's why I don't expect any weapons under these commercial contracts to realistically arrive before early 2026. No one, not the White House, nor President Zelensky's office, nor NATO, has confirmed what's been promised beyond Patriot. And Trump has denied reports he considered supplying long-range weaponry so Zelensky could hit deep into Russia. Should Zelensky target Moscow or deeper into Russia? He shouldn't target Moscow. Is that why you gave him four weapons, though? A Russian missile hit this Kiev block of flats a month ago, killing 23 people. And every night, the attacks go on. Donald Trump insists that his promise of more weapons to Ukraine and threats of sanctions against Russia is saving thousands of lives. But here, the mood is, we'll believe it when we see it.
