An art installation titled 'Dreams in Transit' has been unveiled on St. Mark's Square in Venice, displaying a hundred portraits of immigrants and refugees who have left their home countries seeking better opportunities. The installation, curated by the Art for Action Foundation for the Biennale Architettura, features individuals who have participated in employment and entrepreneurship programs in France, Germany, and Italy.

The exhibition also includes works by international artists such as Leila Alawi and Sahar Magahin, using photography, video, and immersive environments to reflect on migration, new beginnings, and personal aspirations. The show aims to foster empathy and understanding of the challenges faced by migrants and refugees, and will run in Venice until March 2026.

On Venice's famous St. Mark's Square last week, giant banners made passers-by pose. A temporary art installation on the walls of the Procurative Vecchiae showcased a hundred portraits of immigrants and refugees who left their countries in search of a better life. The installation is called Dreams in Transit. Why? As you can see, the people are looking towards their future and just as we look at them and think about them, they are looking and thinking about their lives and their dreams. The majority of these people are migrants and refugees that have participated in the programmes of the Human Safety on the ground in three countries, France, Germany and Italy, where we run programmes for training towards employment and development of micro-entrepreneurs. The large-scale installation is part of a wider exhibition on the impacts of migration after arrival. The project is curated by the Art for Action Foundation for the Biennale Architettura. Now I'm working as a part-time job in Munich as a photographer in the studio and I'm now working also as a self-employed photographer in Germany. My dreams are to become a full-time self-employed photographer and to travel around the world and picture people and places. The inside exhibition features works by a group of international artists, including photographers Leila Alawi and Sahar Magahin. The show reflects on the parties' and new beginnings through video, photography and immersive environments. We live in the United States, which is really almost a humanity crisis right now. I don't think people look at their lives through other people's eyes and when you see these pictures through, you see the struggle and I feel like, especially in the United States, which I'll bring it back to that, it's like they don't see the struggle of immigrants, they just see themselves and I think it's very isolationist. The indoor exhibition runs until March 15, 2026, in Venice.
