As U.S. naval forces crack down on suspected drug traffickers in the southern Caribbean, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro says the real motive behind the operation is to oust his regime and take control of Venezuela's massive oil reserves. Despite these resources, U.S. sanctions and tariffs have led Maduro's government to declare a state of economic emergency. As tensions with the U.S. rise, Venezuelan civilians have been encouraged to train with firearms in order to defend their country. U.S. defense officials say eight warships with over 5,000 sailors and marines are now deployed to the region, including destroyers and amphibious assault ships. With rhetoric intensifying and warships on the horizon, Venezuela braces for a potential confrontation that could reshape South America's geopolitical landscape.
