A day after Israel's special forces entered the al-Shifa Hospital Complex in Gaza, the White House told reporters on Wednesday that the U.S. did not approve the mission. National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said that Israel did not inform the U.S. of the mission ahead of time and has not asked for U.S. input before other similar missions.

Israeli forces are inside the Gaza hospital now at the center of the humanitarian crisis. Israel says its special forces troops have entered the al-Shifa hospital complex to carry out what it calls a precise operation against Hamas militants while taking steps to avoid harm to civilians. The IDF says its troops have found weapons and Hamas assets inside. It accuses Hamas of using hospitals as cover for its fighters. The large medical facility still houses hundreds of medical personnel and patients, including infants as you can see, and Israel has come under fire for its military action at the hospital site. Our National Security Council spokesman John Kirby now saying that the U.S. does not expect the Israelis to inform the U.S. of its operations, in particular around the al-Shifa medical complex, and also said that the U.S. did not give the okay for Israel's latest operations around al-Shifa hospital, saying it doesn't have that call to make.
