The number of jobless claims in the United States fell to 198,000, marking a significant decrease from the previous week's revised figure of 207,000. Continuing claims also declined to 1,884,000, and import prices rose only slightly by 0.1%, indicating limited impact from tariffs.

Analysts noted that while the drop below 200,000 could sometimes be influenced by holiday effects, this particular week was not a holiday period. The low level of jobless claims, combined with a growing labor force, points to a strong labor market with fewer people losing jobs.

A big drop again in jobless claims, 198,000. Last week's 208 has been revised down by 1,207,000. So a drop below 200,000 now could still be holiday related, but this is definitely not in the weeks when the holidays were handled. The four-week, or the continuing claims rather, 1,884,000 down from 1,903,000. And then import prices are up just a 10th of a percent. So it doesn't look like we're seeing a big increase in countries raising prices on what they're exporting to the United States because of tariffs. Mike, 198, I mean, you've covered this for a long, long time. How low is that number, 198,000? Well, it's a very, very low number. It's certainly not the record in recent months, but, or years, but what we're seeing is certainly a growing labor force. There are a lot more Americans out there, so there are more Americans working. So the number of jobless claims falling just tells you that the labor market is holding in there. We're not seeing people losing jobs, and the number gets more impressive in terms of a percentage of labor force as it continues to go down.
