The Upper Midwest and Great Lakes regions are experiencing continued snowfall due to persistent weather systems, with some areas forecast to receive between half a foot and a foot and a half of snow. Widespread accumulations of one to five inches are expected from Michigan through Northern Ohio, Pennsylvania, and into the Northern Plains. 

Strong winds, including gusts over 70 mph near Rapid City, have recently caused travel disruptions, and windy conditions are expected to persist. Additional snow is forecast for cities such as Chicago, Detroit, and Cleveland, with lake effect snow likely to intensify as the system moves east later in the week.

Here's a look at the overall big picture. When you take a look at the Great Lakes, obviously these systems that continue to pile in are giving us the above average snow category that a lot of us are in, especially up here in some of those areas that have been impacted by the Great Lakes, okay? So once again, taking a look at some of those areas that could see half a foot to as much as maybe a foot and a half. But again, synoptically speaking, outside of that, we've got a good swath of anywhere from one to as much as maybe four or five inches, I think from much of Michigan, kind of stretching even into Northern Ohio, parts of Pennsylvania, and then back up into the upper Midwest, the Northern Plains, some of these areas that obviously have been very frigid and have been really dealing with crazy wind over the weekend. Remember late last week, we had 70 plus mile an hour gust up towards Rapid City and it was causing problems, a travel nightmare across I-90. So there is still some wind energy with this. Notice this next batch coming in as we head into your next 24 hours or so, kind of just swings about down to the I-80 corridor or so. Most of the snow will be north of that. And then more reinforcements coming in towards places like Chicago. And of course, looking at the Detroits and maybe Cleveland, you'll kind of be right there on the border. And then once that energy heads east, you start to see the lake effect snow machine turn back on. Again, timing on that is going into your Thursday.
