Cypress Mountain and Mount Washington in British Columbia have opened for the holiday season after a recent cold snap and snowfall transformed the slopes from grass and dirt into a winter destination. Both natural and artificial snow accumulation over the past 72 hours allowed the resorts to prepare their runs in time for one of the busiest periods of the year.

Skiers and snowboarders expressed excitement about the improved conditions, with forecasts predicting additional snowfall in the coming days. The openings come after delays due to inconsistent weather patterns, but visitors are now able to enjoy the slopes just as the peak holiday season begins.

Mother Nature finally pulled through at Cypress Mountain and snowboarders and skiers alike are here for it. As we were driving up we got really excited because you see all the snow falling so yeah I'm hella excited to go. It's very good. I've had control all the way down without any trouble whatsoever. Snow today that wasn't here not that long ago. 36 hours ago we were looking at grass and dirt and we have flipped this place on so quickly. It's a completely different place winter wonderland today. The winter holiday is one of the busiest times of year on BC's ski hills but the weather doesn't always cooperate. Then a wise man once told me is there is no pattern the weather at Mount Washington. Some years it comes a little early sometimes it comes a little bit late. Mount Washington was scheduled to open last weekend and Cypress Mountain is often open earlier than this. Luckily a cold snap this week helped move things along just in time for the holidays along with some assistance from the resort's equipment. We've had quite a bit of natural snow plus we've had the ability to make quite a bit of snow in the last you know sort of 72 hours. Natural or man-made skiers, snowboarders and snow lovers of all ages are keen to get to it either way. About time right? Some more snow would be good but we're happy to be out here for sure. We've been we've been waiting for the mountain to open. Checking the weather every day. The forecast at both mountains does call for more snow over the next few days just in time for the peak holiday season. Marie Seidler, CBC News, Mount Washington.
