President Trump has issued a warning to countries that do not support his plan for the U.S. to take control of Greenland, stating that tariffs may be imposed on those nations. He cited Greenland's strategic location and mineral resources as reasons for U.S. interest, emphasizing national security concerns. 

Despite these warnings, a bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers visiting Denmark reported little international support for a military takeover or purchase of Greenland. The lawmakers highlighted their constitutional authority over funding as a means to influence the situation.

Greenland sits off the coast of Canada, a key location to stage weapons that could take out Russian missiles fired at the U.S. It is also rich in rare earth minerals. Trump warns if the U.S. does not control it, another country will. But not everyone agrees. Are there real pressing threats to the security of Greenland from China and Russia? No, not today. A delegation of bipartisan lawmakers from Washington traveled to Denmark with a message. There is little support for a military takeover or a purchase of the island. We have tools at our disposal under our constitutional authority that speaks specifically to the power of the purse.
