Tropical Storm Humberto has formed in the Atlantic, with meteorologists tracking its progress and forecasting that it could reach hurricane status. The storm is expected to bring increased rain, thunderstorms, and tropical storm-force winds to Bermuda, while the U.S. east coast may experience rip currents and coastal hazards. 

A second tropical wave in the region could also develop into Tropical Storm Imelda, with the Bahamas identified as a potential area for impacts. The proximity of the two systems creates uncertainty in their development and potential effects, with scenarios ranging from one system absorbing the other to both remaining separate and increasing the risk of direct impacts to the U.S. coast.

Tropical Storm Humberto forms in the Atlantic

as of five p.m. We have tropical storm Umberto. It's this area highlighted here. This is the second tropical wave that we think could become tropical storm Imelda, which I know this is a little confusing. We have two areas at once so close together. So let's break down our forecast and what we think could happen and what we're still watching because some of this is not finalized yet because they're so close together. One kind of plays off the other and determines exactly the path it takes in the intensity. So Umberto is what we're a little bit more confident and we have the track we think it takes getting to hurricane status by the end of the weekend. Early next week, you'll notice we are close to the east coast of the U. S. Bermuda. You're going to get those direct impacts, increased rain and thunderstorms. Tropical storm force wins at the least. It's not a direct hit, but then for the east coast of the U. S. At the very least, we have rip currents, those coastal hazards, maybe some coastal flooding. It's actually the second wave that could spell more trouble for us in the U. S. Here it is where we are highlighting and you can see why the Bahamas are certainly a target for impacts here. But over the next couple days, that's when we think we could end up with tropical storm Imelda. I know we had a low for such a long period and then now we're talking about one right after the other. We've marked this for a high chance of development here. Now let's break down the scenarios of what could happen here because, like I mentioned, they're so close together that one kind of determines what happens with the other. So we have Umberto scenario. One is that our tropical wave is actually absorbed into Umberto storm system. That would mean a little chance of impacts or at least direct impacts to the U. S. Still, the rough seas, the rip currents, the coastal hazards that's not going away. Now there's a second scenario, a second option of what could happen here. We have Umberto. It's gonna be moving to the northwest and then eventually making a turn to the north. We could see this other storm system strengthened into a tropical storm or a tropical depression, and then they just remained separate but very close together. This would mean more potential for direct U. S. Impacts. So check back with us off in the next couple days for the latest forecast.
