AccuWeather's Damien Lodes brings you the AccuWeather Exclusive Forecast as Louisiana faces the threat of landfall on Thursday.

A tropical rainstorm is forecast to make landfall along the Louisiana coast, with meteorologists warning of significant flooding risks across Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. The storm is expected to move slowly through the region, producing heavy rainfall totals of 4 to 8 inches, with some areas potentially receiving up to 16 inches.

In addition to flooding, the storm is expected to bring strong winds of up to 60 miles per hour and a storm surge of one to three feet along the coast. The risk of rough seas and rip currents is also elevated, and the impact zone stretches from the Big Bend region of Florida through the southern Louisiana Gulf Coast.

Tropical rainstorm threatens the Gulf Coast

It's all about the flooding rainfall potential that will be watching out for. So Aaron was detailing some of the areas along Louisiana coastal region that will be watching out for that elevated risk of flash flooding, but pretty much the entire Gulf Coast for Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana will be watching out for that elevated risk of flash flooding here as we had throughout the next 24 to 48 hours. And this is even going to extend up to the north along the Mississippi. As this tropical rainstorm makes landfall and this will extend through Little Rock along I-40, even past Memphis there along the Mississippi as we go forward. So this is going to be what we're tracking here across these regions. And here's an updated look at our AccuWeather exclusive eyepath, so it still looks like the eyepath will make landfall around 2 PM Eastern Time there along the Louisiana coastal regions, and then after that it's going to slowly and I mean slowly work its way through Louisiana between 24 hours. It's only going to be moving barely 200 miles, so that's going to be a very slow moving heavy rainfall producing tropical rainstorm and then after that it will pick up some forward momentum as it gets picked up by the jet stream and seared off to the north. So we'll be watching out for that, but overall the tropical risk potential here for the Louisiana Gulf Coast will be at a level one, and this is primarily going to be do flash flooding and gusty winds, but we're also gonna be watching out for rough seas and rip currents possible there along the coastal areas. But once again, we cannot stress how dangerous the flooding is going to be here going forward and that darkest shade of green right there we're expecting. And forecasting everywhere between 4 to 8 inches of total rainfall, and some rain gauges across this region could see up to our Accuweather local storm max of 16 inches of total rainfall that is going to be devastating, dangerous and even deadly amounts of flooding here as we go forward. In addition to the flooding threat, there's also going to be a threat for strong and damaging winds. Dangerous winds here across parts of the Louisiana coastal areas. 4050 even 60 mile an hour straight line winds will be possible. Here across this region. Because of that, we're going to elevate the risk for storm surge across this region from Pascagoula all the way down through pretty much the entire eastern Gulf Coast of Louisiana. One to three feet of additional storm surge will be possible as this storm moves in between tonight and throughout the day tomorrow. So the overall wind and impact risk will be at a high here from the Big Bend region of Florida all the way through the southern portions there of the Louisiana Gulf Coast region. So this is what we're going to be tracking going forward. So overall the trend of this storm. Just it all depends on how much time it can stay over the Gulf. The longer stays over the Gulf, the more energized this storm is going to become here as we go forward.
